Qi Gong & Tai Ji (Tai Chi)

Qi (pronounced 'chee') can be defined as 'energy' or 'vital essence'. Gong (pronounced 'gung') means 'skill' or 'work'. Literally this translates as 'energy work'. Qi Gong is an ancient healing art and is at the heart of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Documented history of Qi Gong dates back approximately 2,500 years and there are some techniques that can be traced back to around 5,000 years ago.

Qi Gong uses specific movements to cultivate energy (qi) and focus our mind/intention (yi) to move our qi through the meridian pathways to release tension and clear blockages. Qi Gong can be practiced by people of all ages and aims to treat the whole person to establish energy balance and spiritual harmony as a way of self-healing. It is a form of complementary medicine and includes both dynamic and gentle postures/movements that can be practiced standing or seated. Practices can be adapted to individual needs making it an ideal aid to recovery from illness or injury as well as maintaining overall health.
